On July 15, there have been hacks of public figures like former US president Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Elon Musk, as well as the official accounts for cryptocurrency exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, and Gemini.
The anonymous hacker used these accounts and tweeted to their followers to send Bitcoins for a "double" payback. Fortunately, these tweets are all deleted now.
The MCS Security Control Team has identified two Bitcoin wallet addresses used in this Twitter hack incident and has been closely monitoring movements of swindled Bitcoins. There are approximately 13 Bitcoins deposited since the tweet uploads.
If any of these Bitcoins were deposited to MCS, the Team will freeze the account immediately and work closely with global exchanges to return them to its rightful owners.
